Campaign to Change the Law on Dogs

The Sun has launched a petition and campaign to change the law on dogs in line with the RSPCA's demands.

The paper says it's time to stop demonising dogs and instead hold owners accountable for their pet's behaviour - the campaign is very clear in its demands:

· make every dog's owner accountable for its actions

· microchip every dog

· have one national dog registration system

· prevent cruelty and attacks by giving police and dog wardens power to issue warnings when people aren't doing the right things for and with their dog

The full story, which includes an open letter by Gavin Grant (RSPCA chief executive) can be found at:

The campaign is also supported by an e-petition which members are encouraged to sign, the petition can be found at:

Smokey and Toby - Two lots of love is better than one

Sunday 27th May 2012 11:27 AM

Toby and Smokey were brought to our Centre by an Animal Welfare Officer; they have been with us since January and have settled in to life with their foster mum. Both boys have wonderful characters and they are very close although sometimes they pretend not to be, their foster mum often catches them cuddled up together. Toby is the more chilled out of the two, Smokey loves to play and will chase pieces of string all day long. They both enjoy sitting on your knee for cuddles and like lots of human interaction.

Toby and Smokey are both 14 years old, they are very fit and well but don't have many teeth between them, if you could give these special boys the loving retirement home they deserve please contact the Centre. Both boys qualify for our Elderly Animal Re homing Scheme which offers lots of benefits for people adopting elderly animals.

Homes for Feral Kittens Needed

Thursday 24th May 2012 11:14 AM

This year we have seen a rise in feral and semi feral kittens coming into the Centre. It's a hard world for a feral kitten to grow up in and many are found wondering down the road side lost and hungry.
We struggle to re home these little kittens as they have grown up wild and have never interacted with humans, therefore can not be re homed as domestic cats.
Sometimes with plenty of handling and patience the kittens will gradually come around and learn to live happily amongst humans, but most of them are happier living in a rural outdoor environment.
We desperately need your help with re homing these lovely kittens, they require a secure sheltered area where they can stay until they are big enough to venture out and you will be responsible for their feeding and veterinary care. There is no adoption fee for feral cats and they reward you by naturally keep the rodent population down, deterring other stray cats. Many people enjoy the glimpses they get of their feral cat at work and playing.
All feral kittens are neutered, treated for fleas and worms, had their first vaccination and are microchipped.
If you are in a position to adopt a feral kitten please contact Gemma Dempsey at the Animal Centre.
