Fields indicated by * are mandatory.

We are currently in the process of changing the venue and times of our training classes, if you are interested in applying please fill out the application form and we'll be in touch when we know when and where they'll take place.

The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and District Branch run dog training classes. The classes are aimed at teaching dog owners all aspects of responsible dog ownership. This includes how to handle your dog, how to play with your dog including teaching them to drop toys on command. The course will also teach you how to train your dog to respond to commands such as sit, down, stay and wait as well as teaching your dog to walk on a loose lead and come back to you when off the lead. You will learn how to use engagement and motivation to train your dog and build a really successful bond between owner and dog. The classes will be taught using clicker training which is a kind, fun and effective way to teach your dog new skills.

The courses will be run by Mike Cuthbert the Branch's Dog Training and Behaviour Advisor. Mike has over ten years experience of working with and training dogs of all ages and breeds during his career with the RSPCA. Mike is also a full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (membership number 01240) and he uses reward based methods when training dogs and owners.

The first class will take place at the Animal Centre without your dog. This will give Mike an opportunity to meet you and discuss the course and any of your queries. He will also give some practical training on using a clicker by demonstrating with one of our dogs. This will ensure a smooth and productive start to the first session with your dog.

You will have the opportunity at this initial session to buy clickers, treat bags etc. and we would also ask that you pay for the course at this time.

The cost of the course will be £80 for 8 weeks (one week without your dog) (All of which will go directly to the branch to help fund vital animal welfare work that we do.)

Please note your dog must be fully vaccinated to be able to attend the classes.

Please note the course is only suitable for friendly, non-reactive dogs. The course is not suitable for dogs who growl or bark at other people or dogs, or for nervous dogs who cannot cope in group situations. If you do have a dog who is nervous or reactive please contact to find a 1-2-1 trainer or to find a behaviourist.
